DEAN OF STUDENTS will:
- Manage and enforce school behavior expectations
- Investigates student complaints and grievances
- Interviews students and witnesses in disciplinary investigations
- Investigates and monitors minor infractions of the school code of conduct using progressive discipline
- Maintains discipline records required by NYSED policy
- Monitors student attendance rates/ truancy
- Openly communicates with staff and parents/guardians regarding student behavior
- Confer with students and administer appropriate consequences with notification of parents
- Works with counselors to establish plans for students who are struggling academically
- Evaluates the effectiveness of these plans
- Assist in the maintenance of school safety plan and crisis management plan
- Assist in the planning, development, and implementation of student behavior plans
- Maintains student attendance records
- Advises students and parents on attendance improvement
- Provides input to Principals and CSE Director as needed for student placements
- Assist students of transitioning to school (7th grade)
- Works collaboratively with school personnel, community, and government agencies on drug abuse
- Works with the School Resource Officer on security matters
- Serves as a liaison between school and home
- Responsible for school activities such as; dances, proms, concerts, award ceremonies, athletic and other social events
- Coordinates school safety plans with outside agencies
- Patrols buildings and grounds
- Re-enter students upon completion of suspension
- Makes referrals to other staff members in the district
- Works with District social worker and guidance counselors and school psychologists to develop proactive disciplinary instructions
- Confers with parents, teachers, counselors, and other support service personnel on matters of discipline and welfare
- Serves as liaison between school and police (SRO)
- Represents school at community meetings
- Serves as a member of the Administrative team
