Pursuant to State Law and the School Board Policy of Hoosic Valley Central School, all requests for transportation to nonpublic schools must be submitted to the Board of Education no later than April 1, 2024. Families that move into the district after April 1 must file a request within 30 days after establishing residency. No requests will be granted for kindergarten children unless they are five (5) years of age as of December 1, 2024.

Pesticide Application on Athletic Fields – 10/28/23 Hoosic Valley CSD Community, Please be aware that a broadleaf infestation on our HS Athletic fields has the potential to lead to unsafe conditions. To remedy this, the District will apply a selective pesticide on Saturday, October 28, 2023. The fields that are being treated will be marked by signage for 24+ hours after treatment. New York State Education Law, Section 409-H requires schools to provide written notification regarding actual or potential use of pesticides throughout the school year. We will continue to monitor the situation and will keep our community informed if any further action is needed.

On Wednesday, September 13, 2023, Activity Club went on a wondrous birding expedition around the school grounds. During their exhilarating outdoor experience, they saw kingbirds, bluebirds, and field sparrows. They may have also spotted a mockingbird and a goldfinch. The Activity Club's endeavors not only consisted of birding, but also plant exploration. They saw a variety of specimens such as wild cucumbers, virginia creepers, and jewelweed. They also saw a wide range of insects including different species of bees and butterflies.

At the June 15th Board of Education meeting, the results of a community survey and a final student survey were announced. With over 700 votes the community vote narrowly supported the Hawks. The student vote showed overwhelming support for our new mascot and nickname, the Hoosic Valley Hawks. A strong case was made by students for all four choices but the clear winner was the Hawks.

Due to the current air quality index in our area, all outdoor activities have been moved inside today, June 8th. The current forecast calls for the air to improve throughout the day and into Friday. Air quality conditions will be evaluated on Friday morning before a decision is made on that day’s activities. Guidance from the NYS Department of Health and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) have been used in making daily decisions. Our school physician has also been helpful in making decisions based on these unusual Air Quality conditions.

Update on Potential Threat at High School

The Hoosic Valley Central School District administration was made aware this afternoon of a bomb threat written on an object, by a student, in front of a school employee. The adults in this High School classroom immediately confiscated the object and contacted a school administrator. The School Resource Officer was notified, and the student was removed from the classroom and then the school. School Administrators and the School Resource Officer confirmed that there was no bomb.

High School Regional Juried Art Exhibit

A very special congratulations to Kiera Matala who created a piece of art out of denim titled Tranquilized Bloom. Her project was selected to be part of the 24th annual High School Regional Juried Art Exhibit. This year 28 school districts submitted 573 pieces overall and 107 works of art were accepted. Kiera's piece will be on display at the Albany Center Gallery located at 488 Broadway, Suite 107, Albany. The exhibit opens on March 24th and the gallery is open Tuesday to Saturday from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
